Mineola Takes Center Stage at NYSSMA Joe Sugar Day in Albany
Mineola High School senior Shayan Dhar recently traveled to Albany to represent the district at the annual NYSSMA Joe Sugar Day. This prestigious event serves as the official kickoff to Music in Our Schools Month, a statewide initiative dedicated to high-quality musical performances and advocacy for music education for every child.
Joe Sugar Day brings together talented student-musicians from across New York to perform for legislators and state officials at the Empire State Plaza and the State Capitol. The event highlights the essential role that music plays in a well-rounded education, fostering creativity, discipline and community.
During the visit, Shayan had the opportunity to meet with Assemblyman Ed Ra, who has been a consistent supporter of the district’s fine arts programs. The district extends its gratitude to Assemblyman Ra for his hospitality and for advocating for the resources necessary to keep music programs thriving in our schools.
This performance marked the beginning of a month-long celebration of music throughout Mineola School District, as students and staff participated in various concerts and activities for Music in Our Schools Month.
